McGill ABQLA Student Chapter

The McGill ABQLA Student Chapter aims to connect McGill students to the Montréal and Québec library scene, whether for the short term while in school or with a long-term career in mind. We organize social and professional events for students and invite them to participate in events organized by the ABQLA. Some of our popular events include hosting guest speakers, library visits, a trip to a Sugar Shack, as well as spirit activities for special holidays like the Halloween Pumpkin Sale and the Valentine’s Day Candy Gram Sale.

Welcome to Back to a New School Year!

My name is Amanda Halfpenny and I am the new president of the student chapter of the ABQLA at McGill for 2009-2010. Last week marked the beginning of a new school year and the Library and Information Studies program at McGill is teeming with new arrivals who all seem nervous but optimistic about this new stage in their lives.

The CLA student chapter at McGill University is pleased to invite librarians and information professionals to participate in the 2009/2010 Professional Partnering Program.

Started in 2008, the Professional Partnering Program is a flexible mentoring program that connects students in McGill's School of Information Studies to information professionals working in an area of interest to the student. The program is aimed at developing relationships between students and professionals at a personal level and supporting students' career exploration.

Message from the President

The Association des Bibliothècaires du Québec/Québec Library Association has just started up a student chapter here at McGill. We’re looking for ways to help McGill students get more connected to the Montréal and Québec library scene, whether for the short term while in school or with a long-term career in mind. Our parent ABQLA chapter hosts events, as well as an annual conference, with the aim of helping librarians develop themselves professionally and get to know other local librarians.
