Submission Guidelines

The deadlines for submissions are as follows:

For the January - April issue: February 15

For the June - August issue: June 15

For the September - December issue: October 15

Book Review Guidelines

Book reviews can go into any issue of the Bulletin. We have relationships with a few publishers that supply complimentary copies of new books to members interested in writing a review. We also accept reviews of any books that are of interest to ABQLA members.

Format

Please follow the general guidelines for document format. When saving the document, use the name of the book, "review," and your initials as the title of the document. Eg: pactofwolvesreviewLG.doc

Learning languages from the comfort of your own home---it pays to be a member!

As the President of the Public Libraries section, I wanted to share some exciting information with professionals and lovers of public libraries alike.  The Eleanor London Côte Saint-Luc Public Library has just introduced a new on-line Language Learning program for its members called Mango Languages.  Launched on the library’s website the second week of January, it was received with enthusiasm from many patrons who wanted to learn a language with the convenience of being at home and not having to worry about due dates.

Having recently returned from the Ontario Library Association’s annual conference, I thought I would provide a brief overview of my impressions of a couple of sessions that left me pondering thought-provoking issues that our profession faces.

In December 2010, the ABQLA College and Research Section hosted a panel discussion entitled “Getting Published in the Library World”, examining the various ways to go about publishing in librarianship.

The Walter Dean Myers

Monday, November 22, 2010, saw the auditorium at Lower Canada College filled with librarians, students, parents and many others, all gathered to hear the renowned author Walter Dean Myers speak.  This award-winning writer for young people was invited as part of the annual Speakers Series at Lower Canada College.  In conjunction with the school, the Youth and School Libraries Sections hosted the event that more than 20 ABQLA members attended.
