ABQLA Youth Section presents: "Front Lines and Behind the Scenes Stars: Keeping Youth on Track".

Thursday, November 5, 2015 - 18:00
Room 101, Schulich Library of Science and Engineering, McGill University, 809 Sherbrooke Street West

The ABQLA Youth Section is proud to invite you to our fall event - "Front Lines and Behind the Scenes Stars: Keeping Youth on Track". This event highlights two stars in the Montreal youth working community, one of whom has a more behind-the-scenes role, and one who spends more time on the 'front lines.'

Annette MacIntyre – the star behind the Scenes
Working very much "behind the scenes" for youth, Annette MacIntyre describes her experiences as the inaugural librarian at the Western Quebec School Board, and the third librarian to be hired at the English Montreal School Board, both under the Action Plan on Reading (now called Reading in School).  She will cover the role and responsibilities of these two positions, what impacts have been noticed since the initiative began, her thoughts about future directions, and interesting projects she undertook.

Liz Colford – the front line star
Liz Colford has worked on the front lines in schools with the organizations Youth Fusion and Collective Community Services. Her focus is on lowering youth dropout rates, building relationships, empowering youth and aiding those who are isolated by poverty or circumstances. She will be speaking about opportunities to relate to youth outside an academic context, where teaching and learning go both ways, as well as experiences and lessons learned on the job.

Cost: ABQLA members free*; non-members $5
(*ABQLA Membership is free for current Library students. Bring your student ID card, and we will sign you up on the spot!)
Refreshments will be provided.
