CMD/CLIC: Call for Papers, Workshops and Seminars

This year marks the fifth Conference of the Library and Information Community of Quebec (CLIC), to be held November 25 to 27, 2013. For five years now, nine associations have been working together to create an event which, year after year, over a thousand people attend for professional training, inspiration and networking opportunities.

This year’s theme is “INNOVATING: exemplary practices, services and policies.”

Concordia University Libraries Research Forum - Call for Submissions

Concordia University Libraries will hold its annual Library Research Forum on Friday, April 26, 2013 at the Loyola Jesuit Hall and Conference Centre. Proposals are welcome for presentations or posters on research in any area of Library and Information Science. Danuta A. Nitecki, Dean of Libraries at Drexel University and Professor in the Drexel iSchool, will be the keynote speaker. The Forum will begin at 9:30 am and conclude at 3:00 pm. Registration is free and includes a light breakfast and lunch.

ABQLA’s College & Research Library section will be hosting its second event on March 11, 2013 from 6-8pm in the Marvin Duchow Music Library (RM A-512), 527 Sherbrooke Street West (see attached poster!).

Please join us for "Special Collections: Hidden and Unique Holdings," a panel discussion on the important role of special collections within the academic library.  We are fortunate enough to have three wonderful speakers join us for the evening.

Canadian Library Month

Giant crosswordOctober was Canadian Library Month, and Monday, October 22nd was National School Library Day.  The school libraries of the Lester B. Pearson School Board are raising awareness of the importance of their libraries this school year by engaging in special activities and projects.

National School Library Day gave opportunity to many to promote literacy and reading activities.  Events and contests, which represent the ingenuity and creativity of our school librarians, were: Research Wars, Get Caught Reading, So You Think You Can Search!, story-writing/reading, IPad stories for classes using the library Smartboard, a giant crossword for all to try, and a contest “Books I Read this Summer/Livres que j’ai lus cet ete “ with entries posted all around the school.

McGill University Library will be hosting a symposium on March 20, Meetings with Books: Raymond Klibansky, Special Collections and the Library in the 21st Century and will include a panel with Gerald Beasley, and Désirée Park. The symposium is free to attend and is open to everyone.
