President's Message, May-August 2015

by Sonia Smith

Greetings ABQLA members,

It is a great honour and privilege to be the incoming President of such a thriving professional organization. My relation with the ABQLA began when I was named Vice-president and then President of the Youth Section, and continued when I became the Vice-President of the Association and the Chair of the Conference Planning Committee. It is with great enthusiasm that I take up the new role of President of the Association.

In this “conference issue” of the Bulletin, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed in the planning and realization of the 2015 Conference. After many months of hard work by an incredible group of library professionals, the theme of "Libraries and Communities: Connecting the dots…" resonated with our participants. Speakers from all over Canada, as well as some of our Southern neighbors, talked about the necessity to reach out and connect with the people we serve. New ideas and strategies were presented to make libraries more relevant in the lives of citizens. With an excellent group of participants and the support of our sponsors, the Conference was a great success. Hats off to all the Conference Planning Committee members!

In this issue you will find a synopsis of every presentation and a link to most PowerPoints that were presented.

It’s been said that our journeys are neither marathons nor sprints, but relays. In that spirit, I have the honor of passing the baton to the new Vice-President, Leticia Cuenca, who will be the Chair of the Conference Planning Committee. I know that the Conference is in good hands! All the best Leticia!
