A classic story told through the eyes of a child In Lucia’s Neighborhood invites the reader to
explore all that happens on a typical day in this young girl’s community. From dog walkers and
merchants to parades and farmer’s markets, Lucia tells the reader about what it’s like to live
in her neighborhood. Connecting it to her community’s Portuguese-Canadian culture, Lucia
talks of Jane Jacobs and the Senhor Da Pedra festival. The vivid illustrations bring to life the
short poetic text of Lucia’s narrative. The book is based on Montrose Avenue, Shewchuk and
Colek’s award-winning animated documentary about the Toronto street bearing the same name.
A recommended purchase for libraries looking to expand their collections on communities and
cultures.
