Investing in our Future: ABQLA’s New Equitable Individual Membership Fee Structure

The Quebec library landscape is changing, and the ABQLA is evolving with it. To ensure our association remains an inclusive and sustainable home for all information professionals, the Board is introducing a new, tiered membership fee structure effective May 1, 2026.

Our goal is simple: Equity. We want to ensure that retirees, those starting their careers, and those working in lower-income roles have a seat at the table, while inviting our established leaders to help sustain our mission.

What’s New:

  • Students $15: (no change)  We are maintaining a low-barrier entry to support the next generation of librarians and technicians.

  • New Graduates $30: (a new category) A transitional rate to help you bridge the gap between school and your first professional role.

  • Retirees $30: (a $20 reduction) reflecting our commitment to the value that experienced members bring.

  • Equitable Tiers: Reduced rates for lower-income earners and paraprofessionals, to ensure that financial constraints never prevent professional growth.

    • <$40K: $30 (reduced by $30)

    • $40K - $60K: $70 (reduced by $25)

    • $60K - $90K: $115 (no change)

    • $90K - $125K: $150 ($5 increase)

  • Sustaining Tier: A new category for higher-income earners, allowing those with greater financial capacity to champion the association’s long-term professional development, networking, and advocacy work.

    • $125K+: $180

By rebalancing our fees, we aren't just changing a price list—we are ensuring that the ABQLA remains a vibrant, diverse, and representative voice for libraries across Quebec.
